Choosing a community has a profound influence on a household. The opportunities it brings will affect every member of the household – adults, children and potentially future generations. In The Canopies, children are enriched by the Splendora Independent School District. There’s a long list of programs and curricula for parents to feel good about. Plus, imagine walking your kids to school. No endless carpool lane or school bus to navigate. With two elementary schools and a junior high school built into The Canopies’ land plan, walking to school is a pleasant way of life.
A Growing School District
The Canopies’ residents hear the school bell ring at Timber Lakes Elementary School, the school district’s first neighborhood school.
A new junior high school will also open in The Canopies in August 2025. According to the district, this facility will have two gyms, loads of instructional spaces, and house 1250 students. The school information is based on information provided by Splendora ISD and is subject to change by SISD without notice. School zoning boundaries are subject to change each year by the district.
School Library Outreach Starts Early
One Friday morning each month, the Splendora Littles program welcomes neighborhood pre-kindergarten children to the libraries of Timber Lakes, Greenleaf and other elementary schools.
Storytime and activities highlight the day. So does making friends.
But there’s a secret mission also. The real magic happens with adults slowly acquainting the young visitors with the library, hallways, even the sounds of school. When big-school kindergarten starts in the fall, the “Littles” come back to a familiar place – no need for first-day-of-school jitters.
As a school district program, Splendora Littles is offered without charge to resident families.
The library staff continues to provide educational, inspirational and research resources throughout students’ school careers. They are continually ready with great reading suggestions for every grade level and with special programs tailored for age groups. The Battle of the Bluebonnets, for example, challenges fourth through eighth graders to read eight books.
