Road Improvements Continue to Shape the Future of New Caney & Porter
Posted: August 28, 2026
Developments are continuing on New Caneys road and infrastructure. This comes from years of new residents and business developments that have made the area a place Houston residents would like to call home. Here are the current projects undergoing construction that will help you determine and plan your routes.
Old Houston Road widening
A three-phase project will widen Old Houston Road from two to four lanes, adding roadside ditches and a turn lane between Hwy. 242 and FM 1314. Fieldwork for Segments 2 and 3 is currently underway, following the start of design work in February and April, respectively. Segment 1 is scheduled for construction from June 2026 to June 2027, while an official schedule for Segments 2 and 3 has not yet been set.
Sorters Road widening
The expansion project will broaden Sorters Road from two to four lanes, incorporating a center turn lane between Northpark Drive and North Bentwood Channel, along with rebuilt roadside ditches. According to Williams, construction near the South Bentwood Channel bridge is nearing completion. The entire project is slated for completion in early 2027.
While construction can be a temporary inconvenience, these developments are a significant win for The Canopies. Widening major roads like Old Houston Road and Sorters Road will ease traffic flow, making your daily commute smoother and improving access to the places that make New Caney such a desirable place to call home. As these projects continue, The Canopies benefits from seamless integration with the surrounding community, ensuring our neighborhood remains a convenient and thriving place to live.
